Information You Provide

  • Account data: Email address, display name, and optional profile picture when you create an account via Apple Sign-In.
  • Treatment data: Treatment start date, total tray count, current tray number, aligner cadence, and treatment notes.
  • Photos: Progress photos you take within the app (front, left, and right angles). These are stored locally on your device by default.
  • Wear time data: Daily aligner wear and unwear session logs.
  • Notes and journal entries: Text notes, symptom tags, and weekly check-in data.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information: Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
  • Usage data: App interactions, feature usage patterns, and session duration (collected via TelemetryDeck analytics).

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the SmileJourney service, including treatment tracking, photo sessions, and wear time monitoring.
  • To sync your data across your Apple devices when you enable iCloud Sync (premium feature).
  • To send you notifications such as photo reminders, wear time alerts, and tray change reminders (with your permission).
  • To improve the app experience through anonymized analytics.
  • To respond to your support requests and communications.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Apple iCloud: If you enable iCloud Sync, your treatment data is stored in your private iCloud CloudKit container. Apple manages this data under their own privacy policy.
  • TelemetryDeck: Anonymized, privacy-first analytics data. TelemetryDeck does not collect personally identifiable information.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred.

Data Storage and Security

  • All photos and treatment data are stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
  • If iCloud Sync is enabled, data is encrypted in transit and at rest via Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.
  • We do not operate external servers that store your personal health or photo data.
  • Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store payment information.

Your Rights

  • Access: You can view all your data within the app at any time.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app. Data removal is completed within 30 days.
  • Correction: You can update your treatment information and profile at any time.
  • Notifications: You can manage or disable push notifications through your device settings.

CCPA Compliance

If you are a California resident, you have the right to request disclosure of data collected about you, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information.

GDPR Compliance

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. To exercise these rights, please contact us.

Children's Privacy

SmileJourney is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

Third-Party Advertising

SmileJourney does not display third-party advertisements.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
